5 Genius Tips to Store Your Makeup Brushes in Your Makeup Kit Bag

14th Jul 2021

When it comes to makeup, buying it is the easiest thing in the world. But storing your makeup, keeping it organized, and not creating a mess out of it?Well, let’s just say many of us just aren’t good at that.

Out of all the items on our vanity, makeup brushes face the worst. We've all been there. We open our makeup bag on vacation, on a trip, or even in the restroom at work, only to find the bristles of our makeup brushes all over the place and sticking out haphazardly.

Even at home, makeup brushes end up being tossed around, buried under a pile of makeup we don't use. So, how can we get organized? Here are five genius tips for storing your makeup brushes!

Tip #1: Assess the situation

First, let's start with organizing makeup. Like most challenging tasks, it’s a bad idea to go into organizing makeup blindly. Pile all your makeup in one place. Yes, we mean all your lip glosses, eye shadow palettes, empty mascara tubes, even the things you no longer use and forget you ever had in the first place! Get them all together so that you can see everything.

Tip #2: Out with the old

Once all your makeup is laid out in front of you, it's time to start sorting through it.

Makeup expires. Check the expiration dates on all your products, and throw out the expired items or items near expiry or ones that you haven't used in the last six months and probably won't in the next six either.

Tip #3: How many brushes are too much?

When it comes to organizing your brushes, we firstly need to downsize. Some of the brushes you have are likely knotted or frayed.

These brushes are no longer efficient for makeup application, so they take up unnecessary space and create clutter. It's time to bid farewell to these brushes.

Tip #4: Clean your makeup brushes!

Before storing them anywhere, you need to clean your makeup brushes. Using dirty makeup brushes can cause acne breakouts and rashes as bacteria can build on them.

You can purchase a makeup brush cleaner or clean them with warm water mixed with shampoo. Do this once a week and leave them out to dry overnight.

Tip #5: Separate storage for brushes

Whether you’re traveling or at home, you should store your brushes in a separate container or makeup bag.

If you’re stuffing your delicate makeup brushes into a bag with all your other makeup products, they will get worn out, and their bristles will get damaged. Most importantly, they will get dirty.

When it comes to makeup application, your brushes are an essential part. Because without them, your entire look won't turn out the way you want. You need brushes because it’s unsanitary to use your fingers, and if you use dirty makeup brushes, that defeats the purpose!

So, to protect your makeup brushes and their bristles, keep them in a separate bag.
