Social distancing has meant that life as we know it has come to a standstill for a lot of us. No more Friday night parties or Saturday nights in; no brunches and dinner dates; no gym or spin class; working from home and managing to stay productive there. But while the adults are struggling to get by, the kids are also having a hard time.
In many ways, it’s tougher for children to understand why they can't just go see their best friend, or why a trip to grandma and grandpa's could be dangerous, or why suddenly school is off, and there's no knowing when it reopens.
To keep them busy, engaged, and having fun during these tough times, here are some D.I.Y. projects you can get started on:
1.Recycled paper for notebooks
Not only does this let you clean out all your old papers, receipts, notebooks, but it also gives your kids a fun activity to do. Try kid-friendly book-binding methods or use a file to place them securely, and once your writing paper is ready, decorate the front and back covers with paint splatter, doodles, drawings, and much more.
This will teach your kids the importance of recycling and reusing things and leave them excited to try out their new notebooks!
2.Backpack tags
While you can order personalized kids backpacks from our website, adding monograms and other unique identifiers, another fun thing to do while you wait for your order to arrive is to make backpack tags. Play with string, beads, cloth, plastic, and make tags that have their names on them or trinkets that are meaningful to them.
Your kids will eagerly wait till they can go back to school and decorate their brand new backpacks with these adorable tags.
3.Bedazzled pencil pouches
Pencil pouches are an essential school accessory, and what better way to make them your own than to add some sparkle to them? While some kids and families might consider this more suitable for girls, if your boys want sparkles, let them have them! They're only kids once, and the confidence you give them to live their truth is what will help them through life.
So what if someone said boys don’t play with glitter? If your boy likes it, let him!
4.School snack cooking and baking
This is the start of an essential life skill. COVID-19 has been a rude awakening to the kind of lifestyle we'd become accustomed to for so long. Eating processed foods, not exercising, compromising our immunity, not hydrating, and passing on those unhealthy habits to our kids too.
Get them used to snack on veggies, fruits, enjoying a balanced diet. Try out some of these delicious recipes that you can make with your little ones, and for all their cooking adventures, you can shop for children’s aprons online here!
Another fun activity that you can try is indoor camping. Get the kids these great nap mats that let them comfortably camp out in your living room. You can find a lot of great products to keep your kids busy during this lockdown.
